Welcome to 1595 Dr.Penfield by Ellegancia
1595 Dr.Penfield by Ellegancia stands as a charming boutique hotel nestled in the vibrant heart of Montreal, at 1595 Dr Penfield Ave. With a solid 3.6-star rating, this property features a thoughtfully restored historic building that blends old-world charm with contemporary touches, creating an inviting atmosphere for travelers eager to experience the city’s dynamic downtown scene.
Guests often praise its prime location, just steps from the Guy-Concordia subway station, making urban exploration effortless. The proximity to notable attractions such as Mount Royal, McGill University, and the bustling streets of Bishop and Crescent adds valuable convenience. Visitors appreciate being within walking distance of Ste. Catherine Street and the renowned underground city, which enhances accessibility to Montreal’s shopping, dining, and cultural experiences.
The interior, carefully revamped, resonates with a refined yet unpretentious aesthetic. The décor avoids ostentation, favoring comfortable simplicity that complements the building’s historic roots. While breakfast is not offered, the availability of free Wi-Fi supports modern connectivity needs, and the smoke-free environment underscores a commitment to guest comfort.
However, the hotel’s boutique scale reflects in its service dynamics. Some guests have noted a lean staffing level, which affects the immediacy of front desk interactions, yet the overall hospitality remains sincere and accommodating. It’s a fitting choice for those who want to immerse themselves in the city’s culture while enjoying restful, understated accommodations.

This place is pretty nice overall. It is walking distance to the Guy-Concordia subway station and the bars on Bishop and Crescent. It's also a quick walk to the Mount Royal. I found it a great location to explore the city from and I was well rested every night. The hotel could use a few more staff members to meet and greet guests, but it wasn't bad. It's like getting low-level service, but I think that's better than hovering over me. I liked the independence, really. It's a nice building. Very old. It feels like a castle, really. I think the best part is the pricing. Everything is so expensive in Montreal now, but this place offers a unique B&B feel without an unobtainable price. It's better than a regular hotel, that's for sure.
This building is absolutely breathtaking and so nicely redone. The interior is really something else and the cost to stay here is really much more affordable than other hotels in the area. The breakfast was a tad lame, but whatever. I didn't come for the breakfast. I just enjoyed a coffee and then went out to eat. The bed was comfy and not overdone or anything. The decorations were nice. The room was clean. I plan to come back and I recommend you give it a try.
I stayed here back in August and had a great time with my husband. I liked how easy it was to walk down to Ste. Catherine St. and explore all the shops and, of course, the underground city. There is a subway station nearby which we used while we were there, but we could mostly walk everywhere. Our unit was nice and the building pretty eye-catching, really, I loved that old-style look mixed with flashy colors. Overall, our experience was rather flawless. The bed was comfortable, the shower nicely tiled, the walls nicely decorated, etc. It is worth a visit. The price is unbeatable for the Montreal area.
We really had a nice stay here back in September. First of all, the host let us in promptly and we quickly got our room. There was no waiting and no trouble with the reservation though, I admit, I expected as much considering a couple of the reviews I read. For the price and location, I was willing to risk it despite the reviews and I am glad I did! The room was rather nice, with a nice window nook looking out at what must be hospital. The bed was warm and soft. The bathroom clean. Overall, considering what we paid for it, it was a very nice place to stay. Affordability is the key word here considering how much it costs to stay in a standard hotel in Montreal. This one is a bit off the grid, so to speak, but awesome nonetheless. It's like they renovated an old building and made into retro-style lodging. It's an interesting concept and lots of fun. I will be back for sure.
What to say about this hotel?! Well for starters it’s in a good location. It’s also a very nice building and they have done a fairly decent job revamping the interior. I think many of the so so reviews are a little hard on the place. It’s a boutique hotel so they don’t have the same capital as a big establishment chain hotel would. I think they could do a better job with the cleaning and attention to certain details, as mentioned above, yes the showers are overly slippery. The shower door didn’t fully shut in mine which meant water went all over the floor in my room. Bed was comfy but they use polyester sheets which I hate. Overall my husband and I enjoyed our stay but we are pretty chill. I’d recommend the place. Not giving 5 stars cause it’s not a 5 star.
